POPPY DANDIYA
Born in India in 1955, Poppy Dandiya studied jewellery making & gemmology at Sir John Cass in London. He mananged to combine studying with setting up a small workshop, and soon managed to get work into Liberty in Regent Street, and the Sloane Sqaure General Trading Company. On the back of this commercial success Poppy went back to India and successfully established one of the First professional jewellery studios there, combining modern technology with ancient techniques – quite literally a combination that gave the best of both worlds.

In 1986 he set up india’s first jewellery making school where he went on to teach courses for four years, and in 1992 Poppy was commissioned by the Standard Chartered Bank to design a trophy for presentation to Prince Charles, on the occasion of a prestigious polo match held in India.
In 1996 Poppy moved back to the UK and began exhibiting work through leading craft and jewellery galleries and since that time he has established a well deserved reputation of excellence.
He uses unusual, beautifully cut gems, set in high carat golds or silver which show the stone to their best advantage. Most pieces use simple shapes , and focus on the beauty of the stone - diamonds are unconventionally often rose, abstract or old mine cut, topaz, tourmaline and rubies often partially polished or cut rough to highlight their natural beauty.
Poppy’s designs have an organic sculptural quality, incorporating his Indian heritage with a dynamic appreciation of the West, and involve several techniques that he has created and that are unique to him. The jewellery he now makes has, over time, been diversely described both as very modern and very ancient. Perhaps it has an element of the timeless. Poppy continues to design for a select clientele of jewellery lovers
